Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, Madagascar’s head of state, arrived in Libreville last Friday for discussions with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The visit marks a fresh chapter in the friendship and cooperation between Gabon and Madagascar.
The Malagasy leader’s two-day working and friendship visit included a formal audience at the Palais Rénovation, where the two presidents focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and sharing insights on Madagascar’s ongoing refoundation process. Randrianirina’s delegation attended a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault detailing Gabon’s transition milestones and the principles that restored constitutional order.
President Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s commitment to supporting Madagascar in rebuilding its institutions. For his part, Randrianirina expressed interest in drawing from Gabon’s governance experience to strengthen institutional consolidation at home. Both leaders praised the excellent state of relations between the two nations.
Colonel Randrianirina assumed power in Madagascar in October 2025, following widespread youth protests triggered by severe water and electricity shortages, which led to the ouster of former president Andry Rajoelina.
