Gabon’s Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation, in partnership with the Gabonese Business Federation (FEG), officially launched ‘Kimba Connect 2026’ on Monday at the Banque des États de l’Afrique Centrale (BEAC) headquarters in Libreville. This groundbreaking national open innovation challenge aims to bridge the gap between enterprises facing digital transformation hurdles and local startups capable of delivering tailored tech solutions.
The program’s core mechanism involves an open call for challenges from businesses, inviting startups to propose innovative solutions. The most promising projects will receive tailored support to refine, develop, and implement their ideas.
Applications are open until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, with the shortlisting phase scheduled for July 24. The grand finale is set for August 4, 2026.
Mark Alexandre Doumba, Gabon’s Minister of Digital Economy, emphasized the program’s mission: ‘True innovation only gains value when it directly addresses real-world needs.’ He highlighted that ‘Kimba Connect 2026’ will empower businesses to turn challenges into growth opportunities while providing startups with enhanced market access and visibility.
Organizers envision this initiative as a catalyst for several key objectives:
- Promoting open innovation across sectors
- Strengthening collaboration between established enterprises and rising startups
- Accelerating the country’s digital transformation
- Showcasing Gabon’s local talent and innovative potential
- Boosting economic competitiveness through tech-driven solutions
This initiative aligns with Gabon’s broader national strategy to modernize its economy and foster homegrown innovation. By creating a structured platform for public-private collaboration, the program seeks to address critical digitalization gaps, support entrepreneurial ventures, and diversify the nation’s economic landscape.
