Despite the recent re-election of Florentino Pérez as the president of Real Madrid, the transfer link between Erling Haaland and the club remains strong.
Last month, Pérez’s opponent in the presidential election, Enrique Riquelme, stated that if he had been elected president, he would have pursued the signing of Haaland, who currently plays for Manchester City.
However, Pérez was re-elected to his third consecutive term, and it appears that the club’s focus has shifted towards other transfer targets.
According to Hans-Joachim Watzke, the president of Borussia Dortmund, who is also Haaland’s father, the Norwegian striker will continue to play for Manchester City this season and may not make a move to Real Madrid until two or three years from now.
Watzke stated that Haaland has expressed admiration for Real Madrid, but has not committed to any club long-term. The transfer window is still open, and it remains to be seen whether Pérez will revisit the idea of signing Haaland in the future.
