In Lake Chad province, Boko Haram regains strength with bold attacks

The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, had made a firm pledge: “We will continue this fight with renewed determination until this threat is completely eliminated.” His statement, shared on social media in early May, came in response to a brazen assault carried out by an offshoot of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram on the military outpost at Barka Tolorom, situated along the Chadian shoreline of Lake Chad. The ambush claimed the lives of 24 soldiers, underscoring the persistent and evolving danger posed by the insurgency.
