Congo-Brazzaville’s President Denis Sassou N’Guesso welcomed his counterpart Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on July 3 for a working visit.
Arriving aboard the RDC-flagged Majestic River, the DRC leader crossed the Pool Malebo before landing at Brazzaville’s Beach, where he was greeted by Congolese Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso.
This visit reinforces the ongoing consultation between President Sassou N’Guesso and President Tshisekedi, who are accelerating bilateral cooperation and rolling out high-impact integration projects.
The cornerstone of their discussions was the Brazzaville-Kinshasa road-rail bridge, one of Central Africa’s most transformative infrastructure programs. Once completed, this landmark link will connect the world’s two closest capital cities, streamline movement of goods and people, and bolster trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Energy integration also topped the agenda. Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Energy Friendship Loop, a regional grid interconnection initiative designed to stabilize power supply and fuel economic growth. A formal agreement was signed to launch this project, which includes a massive 12,900-megawatt hydroelectric dam on the Likouala aux Herbes River. Jointly developed by Congo-Brazzaville, the DRC, and Angola, the scheme aims to position Central Africa as a major energy hub.
Security and stability in the Great Lakes and Central Africa remained high on the agenda. Both presidents emphasized dialogue and strengthened regional cooperation to safeguard peace—a prerequisite for sustainable development across both nations and the wider subregion.
