A remarkable event unfolded in Cité Keur Gorgui, specifically at the residence of Ousmane Sonko, where a pivotal meeting of PASTEF’s political bureau was underway.
While the high-level discussions progressed indoors and numerous journalists gathered outside, Mamadou Goumbala made an unscheduled appearance. His unexpected arrival immediately captured the attention of those assembled near the premises.
Addressing the waiting cameras, Mamadou Goumbala conveyed a powerful political message, urging for a de-escalation of what he perceives as growing tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.
He stressed that any disagreements among the nation’s highest leadership should not overshadow the urgent needs and expectations of the populace. Goumbala emphasized the critical importance for these leaders to prioritize the daily social and economic challenges faced by Senegalese citizens.
“The internal disputes at the highest echelons of government must cease,” he asserted to reporters. “We elected these individuals to alleviate the struggles of the Senegalese people, not to engage in political maneuvering.”
Mamadou Goumbala further implored both key figures to maintain their political cohesion, highlighting its indispensable role in ensuring stable public governance. He reiterated that citizens primarily anticipate tangible results and progress, rather than internal political confrontations.
In this vein, he suggested that the observed internal frictions within the ruling majority might necessitate the establishment of broader consultative platforms. Such initiatives, he argued, would serve to bolster unity and collective action around the current administration’s governance agenda.
