Morocco joins Mediterranean Union parliamentary assembly bureau
Rabat’s parliament gains key role in AI commission, highlighting growing influence in euro-mediterranean diplomacy.

A Moroccan parliamentary delegation actively participated in the 10th Summit of Parliament Presidents and the 19th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), held over the weekend at the Egyptian Parliament’s headquarters in the new administrative capital. Led by Abdelmajid Fassi Fihri, Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives, the delegation strengthened Morocco’s position within this key euro-mediterranean institution.
Morocco secures strategic position in PA-UfM
During the Bureau meeting, the plenary session approved the new PA-UfM Bureau composition for 2026-2030 along with permanent commission presidencies. Morocco was elected as a Bureau member and entrusted with chairing the Artificial Intelligence Commission—a clear recognition of the credibility of Morocco’s parliamentary diplomacy and its expanding role in this euro-mediterranean framework.
Fassi Fihri emphasized during the plenary session that the PA-UfM remains a vital platform for strengthening dialogue and cooperation between parliaments on both sides of the Mediterranean. He highlighted how the selected themes—artificial intelligence, youth engagement, and parliamentary diplomacy for peace and stability in the Middle East—reflect the collective awareness of the euro-mediterranean parliamentary community amid profound transitional periods. These transitions extend beyond technological changes to encompass cultural shifts, evolving power dynamics, and new decision-making frameworks.
Morocco’s strategic vision for technological advancement
Fassi Fihri noted that under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to advance its national modernization, digital transformation, and technological infrastructure development. This strategic approach prioritizes knowledge-based economies as key drivers of sustainable development, enhanced competitiveness, and strengthened international credibility. Morocco’s positioning positions it as a reliable partner across the Mediterranean, Africa, and the global stage.
Delegation contributions to key discussions
The Moroccan delegation, including Chaoui Belassal, Meriem Rmili, Houria Didi, Rabab Aïlal, Salwa Demnati, and Ibrahim Aâba, engaged in multiple meetings and commissions. They addressed critical Mediterranean priorities such as parliamentary diplomacy, artificial intelligence governance, youth participation in decision-making, and collective efforts to enhance security, stability, and shared development.
The concluding session issued a call to maintain parliamentary coordination among member states and reinforce the PA-UfM’s role as a dialogue and trust-building platform dedicated to the security, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity of Mediterranean peoples.
