Morocco strengthens women’s employment with World Bank partnership

The Moroccan government has sealed a transformative partnership with the World Bank, designed to propel the Kingdom toward inclusive growth and sustainable development. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to tackling pressing economic challenges, with a strong emphasis on employment opportunities for young people and women across both urban and rural landscapes.

Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating: «This partnership represents a turning point for Morocco. Its strength lies in its structured approach, merging public and private investments with targeted knowledge and reforms to build a more prosperous future for the nation.»

The collaboration aligns seamlessly with Morocco’s New Development Model, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at fostering a dynamic, equitable, and resilient economy. In a context where youth and female employment remain critical hurdles, this partnership introduces a multi-faceted strategy to drive meaningful change.

Three core pillars have been established to guide this effort:

Boosting business competitiveness

Efforts will focus on dismantling regulatory barriers, fostering fair competition, and expanding financing avenues for small and medium-sized enterprises. By creating a more level playing field, the initiative seeks to empower local businesses to thrive and expand.

Building inclusive and connected cities

Urban and rural areas will benefit from enhanced connectivity, reduced geographical disparities, and improved access to essential services and markets. This pillar aims to bridge the gap between regions, ensuring no community is left behind in the nation’s economic progress.

Investing in human capital

Human development is at the heart of this endeavor, with a focus on modernizing education systems, expanding universal healthcare coverage, and strengthening social protection networks. The World Bank’s support will combine financial resources, technical expertise, and strategic partnerships to amplify these efforts.
