Oumane sonko slams governance and warns diomaye faye’s drift from pastaf project

Sonko’s sharp critique of Senegal’s governance at Sadio

At a Sadio rally in the Diourbel region, Ousmane Sonko, leader of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, delivered a pointed address that sharply questioned the current administration’s direction. Speaking before a crowd of supporters, he highlighted what he sees as a growing disconnect between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s actions and the movement’s original vision.

The PASTEF chairman revisited the circumstances of Diomaye Faye’s election in March 2024, noting that he had initially championed the candidate after his own candidacy was barred. Sonko’s remarks underscored a perceived abandonment of the movement’s core promises, leaving many citizens disillusioned.

« He was lifted to power, yet he has strayed from the project that united us, » Sonko declared. « The hope we inspired in the people has evaporated. » His comments reflect growing concerns about the administration’s commitment to the reformist agenda that defined the 2024 transition.

Sonko also reaffirmed his pivotal role in driving the political shift that led to last year’s historic change in leadership. He framed the upcoming 2026 and 2029 elections as critical moments to realign the government with PASTEF’s founding principles.

Amid rising speculation about tensions between the presidency and the prime minister’s office, no official response has been issued by state authorities.
