Dakar — Following the Conference of Presidents held this Friday, June 19, the National Assembly of Sénégal has established a demanding new legislative agenda. Lawmakers are set to review proposed updates to the Labor Code and the Social Security Code in committee sessions this Saturday, June 20, with plenary discussions scheduled for Monday, June 22.

Constitutional revision at the heart of parliamentary tensions
The most critical item on the agenda remains the proposal for a Sénégal constitutional revision. Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, provided a comprehensive update on this matter to the Bureau members. He noted that the mandatory advisory opinion previously sent to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has yet to receive a formal response from the executive branch.
In light of this silence from the Presidency, the head of the legislature has established a firm deadline for Monday, June 22. Regardless of whether a response is received by then, the Assembly’s Bureau will be summoned to move forward with the legislative process. Ousmane Sonko emphasized his commitment to ensuring the constitutional amendment is debated and put to a vote before the current ordinary session concludes.
Furthermore, the parliamentary leader highlighted that the institution is still waiting for the submission of two vital financial documents: the Amending Finance Law (LFR) and the Budget Orientation Debate (DOB) paper. Although these texts have been approved during Council of Ministers meetings, they have not yet reached the Assembly, heightening the sense of urgency between the legislative and executive powers.
The situation continues to evolve as the deadline approaches.
