Mabouba Diagne, who holds the portfolio for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, formally submitted a complaint to the Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Dakar. The complaint alleges both defamation and the dissemination of false information.

Reports indicate that the official request was duly recorded by the prosecutor’s office under the reference number 8815.

Minister’s allegations against media reports

The minister’s grievances stem from various media publications that allegedly linked him to irregularities identified in a Court of Auditors report. This report specifically scrutinized the management of subsidized agricultural equipment. The articles in question reportedly surfaced around Friday, May 15, 2026.

According to the legal filing, submitted by his counsel, Me Khadim Kébé, certain press entities are accused of circulating details from a provisional 2025 Court of Auditors report. This report highlighted managerial anomalies within the agricultural program, and these media outlets purportedly implicated Minister Diagne directly in the stated irregularities.

Minister Diagne contends that some of these publications deliberately fostered confusion. He points to instances where his image was used to illustrate articles, or where content implicitly suggested his personal involvement in the events under discussion.

Mabouba Diagne’s vigorous defense

In his defense, Mabouba Diagne categorically denies that these publications are supported by any evidence substantiating his involvement in financial improprieties. He further emphasizes that the agreements concerning the subsidized agricultural equipment with the Agricultural Bank were finalized prior to his assumption of ministerial duties.

He maintains that the provisional Court of Auditors report does not explicitly name him as either responsible for or complicit in any financial irregularities.

Asserting that his reputation and honor have been unjustly tarnished, the minister has opted to pursue legal action against the individuals responsible for the publications and any other involved parties. These proceedings are being initiated under articles 255 and 258 of the Penal Code, which address defamation and the dissemination of false news.
