The Patriotic Africans of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (Pastef) is set to hold its inaugural national elective congress on June 6–7, 2026, in Dakar. The primary agenda? Electing a new party president. Ahead of this pivotal event, the High Authority for Party Regulation (HARP) released the approved list of candidates this May 22.
As anticipated, incumbent Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko stands unopposed, confirmed as the sole candidate for his own re-election. Meanwhile, seven other aspirants saw their bids rejected—either due to incomplete documentation (missing ID or membership cards) or procedural irregularities deemed irreversible after the May 20 filing deadline.
Under Sonko’s leadership, the congress will not only finalize his party leadership but also chart Senegal’s political course for the coming years. With local elections slated for 2027 and presidential polls in 2029, Pastef is positioning itself for the nation’s future challenges.
