Serigne Habib Sy publicly aligns with Pastef in Tivaouane

Tivaouane : Devant Ousmane Sonko, Serigne Habib Sy adhère au Pastef

Serigne Habib Sy has formally declared his allegiance to Pastef, the political party led by Ousmane Sonko. This announcement was made during a recent meeting in Diaksao, where Sy expressed his commitment to becoming a card-carrying member, thereby offering public support for the party.

In anticipation of the Mawlid festivities in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as both the leader of Pastef and the President of the National Assembly, undertook a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with influential religious figures. During this significant encounter, Serigne Habib Sy, his host, seized the opportunity to openly affirm his affiliation with the governing party.

Addressing Sonko directly, the esteemed religious guide unequivocally stated his intention to formalize his membership with Pastef. “I am already a member of Pastef. I plan to acquire my membership card very soon. My only challenge is understanding how to complete the process through the online platform,” Serigne Habib Sy conveyed. In response, Ousmane Sonko promptly pledged his assistance to streamline the procedure. “I will personally ensure your membership card is delivered to you,” the Pastef leader assured him.

This public declaration from Serigne Habib Sy aligns with his history of civic engagement. Notably, the son of the revered late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh had previously joined the “Y en a marre” movement in February 2021. Several years later, he now openly solidifies his partnership with Pastef, signaling his firm intention to formally join the party’s ranks.
