Solidarity from France continues for Mali despite hardships

The sixteenth general assembly of the Support Association for the Village of Forgho in northern Mali took stock of its actions amid ongoing challenges in the region.

  • The association remains active in Mali.

During the meeting, Marie-Jo Mennelet, the association’s president, expressed deep concern about the situation in Mali: “I don’t have good news from the country, which is facing even harder times than before.” The challenges include escalating jihadist attacks, severe shortages, frequent power and water cuts, soaring prices, and extreme heat, all of which have made daily life unbearable for many Malians.

Despite these adversities, the association maintains strong ties with communities in Forgho and Bamako, continuing to support their needs with unwavering commitment. Marie-Jo Mennelet highlighted in her report that schools in Forgho and Kotchekaraï remain operational, unlike many others in northern and central Mali. While no new sponsorships were initiated this year, existing ones have been sustained thanks to the generosity of members and donors.

The association’s efforts have funded essential supplies for the school year, meal programs, final exams, medications, seeds, and critical infrastructure repairs in schools and villages. Although few public events could be organized due to the circumstances, donations were still collected through concerts and theater performances.

The financial report reflected a positive balance, with revenue primarily from donations, memberships, and sponsorships. Expenses were prioritized for educational support, medical aid, agricultural resources, and the orphanage in Bamako, alongside occasional assistance to families and teachers.

The assembly concluded with the traditional toast of friendship and warm exchanges after unanimously approving the reports and renewing the board members.
