Tchad’s education ministry learns from Cameroon’s ICT integration model

The UNESCO Central Africa regional office supports member states in transforming national education systems through tailored technical assistance and knowledge sharing.

A five-day study visit focused on best practices in integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education took place in Yaoundé from April 20 to 24, 2026. The mission brought together a delegation from the Republic of Chad to examine Cameroon’s advanced digital education initiatives.

This exchange aligns with Chad’s national modernization agenda for its education system, aiming to enhance access to quality, inclusive, and equitable learning opportunities. The initiative supports key national strategies including the 2022–2026 National Development Plan, the « Tchad Connexion 2030 » vision, the National Teacher Policy (PNET), and the Tchadian School Rebuilding Program (PRET). These efforts are backed by the Global Partnership for Education and implemented with the technical assistance of UNESCO and UNICEF.

In a context of significant structural challenges, ICT integration emerges as a critical lever to improve teaching quality, expand access to education, and strengthen governance of Chad’s education sector. The PRET initiative specifically aims to introduce gradual digital transformation through practical, accessible, and low-complexity solutions tailored to local realities.

To achieve this, Chad’s Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion launched this learning mission, drawing on Cameroon’s proven track record in educational technology across both formal and non-formal sectors.

The mission’s agenda featured institutional meetings, technical visits, and collaborative workshops alongside key Cameroonian education stakeholders. At the Ministry of Basic Education, specialized departments, academic partners, and institutional leaders convened to explore Cameroon’s ICT integration model in depth—covering pedagogical, curricular, organizational, and infrastructure dimensions.

Discussions highlighted teacher training programs, digital tools deployed, institutional coordination mechanisms, and partnerships that support the digital transformation of the education system.

Beyond knowledge sharing, the mission adopted a rigorous methodology combining document analysis, stakeholder interviews, field observations, and collaborative working sessions. This approach seeks to identify critical success factors, document transferable practices, and adapt lessons to Chad’s specific context.

Expected outcomes include a comprehensive mission report, actionable recommendations, and a priority action plan to accelerate ICT integration in Chad’s education system.

Regional cooperation to build resilient education systems

This initiative underscores the UNESCO Central Africa regional office’s role as a cooperation facilitator and innovation catalyst among Central African nations. It also contributes to a regional movement that fosters sustainable mechanisms for sharing best practices across the subregion.

By promoting mutual learning and adaptation of proven solutions, the mission strengthens the resilience of education systems and accelerates their transformation in the digital age.
