Theodore holo praises romuald wadagni ahead of presidential investiture

In an exclusive interview with Bip Radio, Théodore Holo, former president of the Constitutional Court of Bénin, lauded the generational shift symbolized by Romuald Wadagni’s election as the new President of the Republic.

As a distinguished professor of public law, Holo expressed optimism about the early days of the new administration. He particularly commended the balanced approach of prioritizing both infrastructure development and the protection of fundamental freedoms, framing these as indispensable pillars for national progress. The president-elect’s agenda, with its focus on governance, political dialogue, and security, is, in his view, a promising step toward sustaining the country’s stability.

Yet, Holo emphasized a critical caveat: public success should not hinge solely on tangible achievements. True leadership, he argued, must also safeguard citizen rights, engage with diverse political stakeholders, and cultivate an environment of trust—especially following a period riddled with contentious decisions.

trust under scrutiny

Despite his favorable outlook, the former constitutional leader remains cautious. He insists that only the day-to-day execution of power will reveal the true character of this presidency.

« For me, he is a good president. But will he stay true to his promises? I can’t say yet, » he shared with Bip Radio.

Holo also noted that Wadagni, having served in high-ranking roles under the previous regime, possesses an intimate understanding of state mechanics. This experience, he believes, carries both advantages and challenges: the new president must demonstrate clarity, acknowledge past missteps, and make the necessary corrections. Above all, his ability to engage in constructive dialogue and exhibit political humility will determine whether his leadership fosters harmony.

In short, while the early signs are encouraging, Holo reserves judgment, awaiting concrete outcomes that will test the administration’s resolve.
