From fear to relief: how surveillance changed lives
A resident of the Madagascar neighborhood shares a striking before-and-after account: «We once lived under the constant threat of armed robberies. Shops, banks, and bakeries were targeted without warning. The attackers vanished before anyone could respond. But ever since the surveillance cameras were installed, such brazen acts have plummeted. I owe a debt of gratitude to the authorities for this peace of mind.»
Command hub in Etoudi: the brain behind the cameras
The entire network is overseen by the National Command Center for Video Surveillance, headquartered in the Etoudi district. This centralized control room processes real-time feeds, enabling swift police responses and coordinated security operations across the capital.
Expanding protection: new funding and wider coverage
The government has secured fresh funding to extend this life-saving system. A presidential decree signed on December 17, 2025 authorized a 39.2 billion FCFA loan, earmarked for expanding the nationwide intelligent urban surveillance project.
Over eight years, the initiative has mobilized 150.8 billion FCFA from three Chinese lenders. The first phase alone delivered 1,500 fixed cameras across major cities, supplemented by 2,000 portable transceivers for police units, enhancing their surveillance and rapid intervention capabilities.
Beyond the city: safeguarding homes and farms
Private homeowners are also installing these systems. One resident explains: «Before, burglars struck repeatedly. Since I installed a camera, intruders are caught on tape every time. Justice is swift, and my family sleeps soundly.»
The cost varies by model, averaging around 15,000 FCFA. These cameras are versatile—seen on streets, in plantations, inside vehicles, and even in schools—serving as silent guardians around the clock.

Thanks to smart connectivity, users can monitor their property in real time via smartphones, televisions, and other devices. Whether it’s checking on a farm at dawn or watching over a child’s school, the technology puts security firmly in the hands of citizens.
