Algeria and Chad have formalized a new agreement in N’Djamena aimed at streamlining infrastructure projects, including the ambitious trans-Saharan highway, following a high-level meeting between officials from both nations.
The accord, signed on Thursday during a working visit by Algeria’s delegation, focuses on expediting public works and infrastructure development to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This follows previous commitments made in April, with both sides now accelerating implementation through practical measures.
The ceremony was witnessed by key figures including Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, and Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda. Also present were senior representatives from Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation in Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Embassy in Chad, as well as executives from Cosider and Algeria’s National Public Works Company. The Chadian delegation included the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and senior officials.
During the talks, Amir Idriss Kourda highlighted the rapid momentum in executing bilateral agreements, citing tangible progress since the April 22 signing in Algiers. He pointed to ongoing technical exchanges and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway segment crossing Chadian territory.
