Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, initiated a crucial two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad on Wednesday, leading a high-level delegation. The primary objective of this mission was to meticulously examine effective strategies for advancing joint infrastructure endeavors, most notably the expansive Trans-Saharan Road initiative.
This significant visit directly implements directives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon earlier dialogues conducted during the Chadian President’s recent trip to Algeria. It emphatically demonstrates a shared resolve to elevate bilateral cooperation to a concrete and pragmatic level, thereby fueling development in both nations.
Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), arrived at N’Djamena’s Hassan Djamous International Airport on Wednesday evening. There, he received a warm welcome from Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, alongside several other Chadian dignitaries.
The Algerian contingent comprised over 14 seasoned experts and engineers. This marks their second visit to the Republic of Chad, dedicated to continuing the specialized assessment initiated during their previous trip. The delegation notably included the CEOs of “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector stands as a vital pillar in the collaborative efforts between Algeria and Chad, serving as a fundamental driver for economic integration. Algeria maintains a profound interest in the Trans-Saharan Road project, recognizing its role as a strategic artery that will durably interlink the economies of both countries and the wider region. Consequently, this visit was primarily concentrated on ensuring the tangible implementation of two specific segments of the Trans-Saharan Road located within Chadian territory, acknowledging their critical importance as essential links in this continental thoroughfare.
Leveraging the extensive experience accumulated by its national enterprises in constructing major road networks, particularly within challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is committing its expertise and technical proficiencies to this ambitious project. This commitment is poised to catalyze a profound transformation and invigorate regional trade exchanges.
The visit is anticipated to yield tangible outcomes, significantly strengthening Algerian-Chadian cooperation in the crucial domains of infrastructure and public works.
