Algeria and Niger strengthen strategic health cooperation

During the second session of the Great Algerian-Nigerien Joint Commission, both Algeria and Niger reaffirmed their mutual commitment to expanding medical collaboration. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, this initiative is part of a broader strategic roadmap designed to establish a robust and lasting alliance in the healthcare sector.

On the sidelines of this high-level meeting held in Niamey, the Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, held talks with his counterpart from the Republic of Niger, Garba Hakimi. The two officials emphasized a shared desire to intensify bilateral ties through an effective partnership that mirrors the deep-rooted fraternal connection between Algeria and Niger. This dialogue served as a platform to explore innovative ways to enhance cooperation, focusing on the shared interests of both nations and their citizens.

The discussions highlighted several technical priorities, specifically the advancement of medical and paramedical training programs. Both ministers explored opportunities to upgrade the skills of healthcare professionals and expand cooperation into high-tech medical fields. Key topics included kidney transplantation and the integration of telemedicine services, which are expected to significantly improve patient care and provide better access to specialized medical expertise.

Promoting hospital twinning and regional health projects

As part of the agreement, both countries have pledged to promote twinning projects between their respective hospital institutions. These efforts will support the modernization of healthcare infrastructure and improve coordination in preventive medicine. A major highlight of this collaboration is the planned establishment of a dedicated monitoring center for tropical diseases located in the Tamanrasset province.

Furthermore, the digitalization of the health sector was identified as a critical objective. Both ministers stressed the necessity of implementing digital solutions for managing healthcare systems and enhancing health information databases. This technological shift aims to improve overall governance and boost the operational efficiency of medical services across both Algeria and Niger.
