Spanning a substantial 5,200 square meters, the Mohammed VI Professional Training Center in Bamako delivers specialized vocational programs meticulously designed to address the evolving demands of Mali’s job market.
Mamary Diarra, the national director of Tourism, underscored the significant impact of this initiative. “Above all, I wish to acknowledge the outstanding collaboration between the Malian state and Morocco. This generous gift from His Majesty Mohammed VI stands as clear evidence of the strong understanding and friendship shared by our two nations,” Diarra stated. He further noted that “this center will provide essential training for young Malians right here in Bamako,” detailing that “the facility is equipped with modern classrooms, practical training kitchens, and mock hotel environments. It represents a truly valuable asset for the Malian government.”
Once fully operational, this state-of-the-art facility is set to welcome nearly 1,000 trainees annually. Its comprehensive curriculum covers 21 distinct training sectors, with 12 streams focused on construction and public works (BTP), and 9 specialized programs in the burgeoning tourism, hospitality, and catering industries. This expansion of Mali vocational training capacity is crucial.
Mamadou Minkoro Traoré, president of the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Crafts of Mali (APCMM), highlighted the profound significance of having such a vocational training center within the country. He explained that it offers the vital opportunity “to train our youth locally, whereas previously, trainees often had to travel to Morocco for their education. Beyond providing high-quality instruction, this institution also significantly reduces the travel and accommodation costs for these students.”
Mamadou Traoré, a Balimaya promoter who received his own training in haute couture and styling in Morocco, emphasized Mali’s critical need for skilled human capital across essential development sectors. “The launch of this center is incredibly timely,” he remarked. “I extend my gratitude to the Moroccan authorities for entrusting this center to Mali, as it will enable young Malians to acquire valuable trades, helping them avoid perilous journeys. This institution will play a key role in combating youth unemployment.”
During the official handover of this vital infrastructure to Malian authorities last July, Oumou Sall Seck, the Malian Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Vocational Training, stressed that this initiative directly addresses Mali’s strategic imperative for skill development. She highlighted its role in strengthening human capital within sectors fundamental to the nation’s economic and social advancement.
