The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, alongside the Deputy Minister Camarade Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabre/Kabore, held a working session on June 5, 2026, with the newly appointed head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Burkina Faso, Dr Anselme Siméon Sanou. The meeting centered on aligning mutual priorities in combating organized crime, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and terrorism.

Uniting against regional threats
During the discussion, Dr Sanou outlined the UNODC’s strategic priorities, which closely mirror Burkina Faso’s national security agenda. The collaboration aims to enhance joint initiatives targeting drug abuse, illicit arms circulation, and cross-border criminal networks threatening regional stability.
A shared commitment to stability
Expressing full support for Burkina Faso’s security efforts, the UNODC representative highlighted the importance of localized expertise in designing effective counter-crime strategies. Minister Traoré echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for integrated partnerships between government bodies and civil society organizations to tackle emerging security challenges.
The Burkinabe government pledged its full cooperation, underscoring the critical role of international partnerships in safeguarding peace and security across the nation.
