Grand military parade in N’Djaména marks Chad’s sovereignty
The 66th anniversary of Chad’s independence was commemorated with a grand military parade at N’Djaména’s Place de la Nation, along with similar ceremonies held in major cities nationwide on August 11.
President Mahamat Déby Itno presided over the event in the capital, accompanied by two distinguished guests: Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, Head of Madagascar’s Refoundation, and General Horta Inta-A, Leader of Guinea-Bissau’s Transition.
The hour-long military display showcased the prowess of Chad’s Defense and Security Forces, which boast over 5,000 active personnel, as confirmed by the General Staff of Chad’s Armed Forces.
Earlier that day, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno paid tribute at the Monument aux Morts in N’Djaména, honoring fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Chad, once under French colonial rule, gained independence on August 11, 1960. Following his election in May 2024, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno emphasized a strategic pivot toward strengthening and diversifying the country’s international partnerships.
