Chad’s security ministry boosts protection for tabaski celebrations

General Ali Ahmat Aghabache, Chad’s Minister of Public Security and Immigration, issued directives on May 25, 2026, instructing security forces to enhance surveillance across public spaces and places of worship in anticipation of the Tabaski festivities.

An official communiqué from Minister Aghabache called upon relevant agencies to implement comprehensive measures and maintain heightened vigilance. The mandate specifically targets the security of mosques, churches, and other religious sites, alongside markets, government buildings, and all public gathering areas throughout the Tabaski holiday period.

The directive underscores the critical importance of strictly executing these security protocols for the entire duration of the celebratory period.

Tabaski, also known as Eid al-Adha, stands as one of Islam’s most significant holidays. It is traditionally observed with extensive communal prayers, ritual animal sacrifices, and numerous family and community gatherings. This festive season typically sees a substantial increase in crowds at both places of worship and bustling marketplaces.

These heightened security instructions are issued amidst a persistent regional security threat landscape. The primary objective of bolstering these protective measures is to preempt any potential incidents that could disrupt the peaceful conduct of the Tabaski celebrations.
