On the second day of his official visit to Libreville, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, embarked on a comprehensive tour of several significant landmarks within the Gabonese capital this past Saturday, June 6. Accompanied by Hermann Immongault, the Vice-President of the Government, Colonel Randrianirina explored the modern Cité Émeraude, the scenic Baie des Rois, and the prestigious Cité de la Démocratie. Within the latter, his itinerary included visits to the grand Banqueting Hall, the expansive Congress Palace, and the insightful Omar Bongo Ondimba Museum.
Following what he described as a “tourism marathon,” the Malagasy leader shared his perspective, remarking that Gabon’s progress represents an Africa undergoing profound transformation. He emphasized that these achievements vividly demonstrate the commitment of African leaders to modernize their nations and accelerate their development trajectories. “Everything I have witnessed in Gabon,” he stated, “illustrates the collective will of numerous African presidents to modernize and advance their countries and the broader African continent.” While acknowledging that Madagascar’s processes are distinct and a direct replication of the Gabonese model is not feasible, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina nonetheless commended the remarkable outcomes achieved by the Gabonese authorities during their period of Transition.
He further observed that some of Gabon’s accomplishments, initially perceived as challenging or even impossible within such a condensed timeframe, have indeed been realized. Consequently, he expressed a strong desire to draw valuable lessons from Gabon’s experience, intending to apply these insights to support the ongoing refoundation process within his own country.
“We aim, as you mentioned earlier, to learn from Gabon’s journey to successfully guide Madagascar’s refoundation process, ensuring we can lead the nation to presidential elections as swiftly as possible,” he affirmed. His clear objective is to facilitate presidential elections in Madagascar without undue delay. Colonel Michaël Randrianirina concluded his visit to Libreville, departing yesterday in the mid-morning.
