Côte d’Ivoire champions investment to bolster local animal and fisheries output

Côte d’Ivoire is actively pursuing a strategy to significantly enhance its domestic animal and fisheries production, aiming to reduce its current reliance on imports. This move comes as the nation’s expenditure on imported meats and offal reached a substantial 782 billion CFA francs in 2024, according to Bouadi Beda Paul, who serves as the Director of Financial Affairs for the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources (MIRAH).

Speaking on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Jacqueville during a crucial workshop, Mr. Paul underscored the imperative for results-oriented budgetary planning. The gathering focused on revising the Multi-Year Spending and Annual Performance Projects Document (DPPD-PAP) for the 2027-2029 period, a key instrument in addressing the sector’s challenges.

He further elaborated that the National Policy for Livestock, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Development (PONADEPA) 2026-2030 is specifically designed to fortify food sovereignty and stimulate private sector investments across these vital industries.

“Within a management framework driven by results, the meticulous development of the DPPD-PAP is no longer merely an option, but an absolute necessity,” stated Bouadi Beda Paul.

The workshop, meticulously organized by MIRAH’s financial affairs directorate, ran from July 29 to July 31. It brought together senior officials from various ministry departments to pinpoint and prioritize the most critical needs for the upcoming three years.

The comprehensive document emerging from these discussions is set to outline the ministry’s strategic objectives, detail the specific actions to be undertaken, and establish clear monitoring indicators to rigorously assess the effective utilization of public resources.

Furthermore, the Director of Financial Affairs actively encouraged young Ivorians to explore careers in livestock farming, fish farming, and aquaculture, highlighting these sectors as promising avenues replete with significant employment opportunities.
