ID4Africa 2026: Abidjan hosts Africa’s digital identity leaders

The 7th annual ID4Africa General Assembly is set to take place in Abidjan from May 12 to 15, 2026, at the Parc des Expositions de Port-Bouët. This year’s theme, “Digital identity: from digital public infrastructures to digital public ecosystems”, will drive discussions on secure identification, public service access, and data protection.

ID4Africa serves as a pivotal pan-African gathering, uniting government officials, technical experts, private sector stakeholders, and international institution representatives. The event’s opening ceremony on May 12, 2026, was led by Vice-President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné of Côte d’Ivoire.

Over four days, participants will explore critical topics such as secure population identification, seamless access to digital public services, and the creation of inclusive digital ecosystems. Unlike traditional technical-focused discussions, this conference emphasizes a holistic approach, integrating legal, institutional, and sector-specific dimensions.

Established in 2014, ID4Africa has been instrumental in helping African nations develop robust and responsible digital identity systems. These systems support national development, drive digital transformation, and enhance humanitarian efforts by ensuring citizens can access essential services reliably.

By hosting this landmark event, Côte d’Ivoire reaffirms its commitment to advancing Africa’s digital future. The conference highlights the nation’s strategic role in fostering a digital ecosystem built on trust, security, and inclusivity, where a reliable digital identity is the cornerstone of citizen empowerment and service delivery.
