Ivorian-mauritanian ties deepen amid West African challenges

The President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, welcomed his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, at the Ivorian presidential palace on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The 24-hour working visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional security concerns.

During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of deepening ties between Abidjan and Nouakchott, highlighting shared perspectives on key challenges facing West Africa. The discussions covered current relations, future cooperation opportunities, and the pressing security issues impacting the region.

Following the talks, President Ouattara expressed satisfaction with the quality of the exchange, describing Ghazouani as a “friend and brother“. He underscored the need for close collaboration between the two nations to tackle regional instability:

“We held an excellent discussion on our respective countries, cooperation prospects, and especially the difficulties facing the sub-region. We are fully aligned on decisions and perspectives, and will work closely to move forward.”

Ouattara emphasized that this alignment would serve as a foundation for deeper dialogue between Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania on matters of mutual interest.
