Khalifa sall challenges Senegal’s ruling power with bold political move

The political party Taxawu Sénégal, led by Khalifa Sall, has officially transformed into a structured political party during its founding congress held this past Sunday at the Grand Théâtre in Dakar. The event marked a significant shift from a political platform to a fully-fledged party, drawing massive support from militants adorned in party colors, waving banners and chanting slogans in an electrifying atmosphere.

A wave of political backing and new alliances

The congress witnessed a high-profile attendance, with key political figures including Bamba Fall, Mayor of Médina, Alioune Ndoye, Mayor of Dakar-Plateau, and Aïssata Tall Sall among others. The gathering also saw the presence of Oumar Sarr, Coordinator of the Front pour la République (FDR), and Me El Hadji Diouf, along with Zahara Kane Thiame and other prominent political leaders.

According to the organizing committee, six political parties and multiple movements formally joined Taxawu Sénégal by signing its founding charter during the event.

Khalifa Sall delivers a scathing critique of governance

In his closing speech, Khalifa Sall hailed the congress as a founding milestone, cementing the official transition of Taxawu Sénégal into a recognized political force. He painted a grim picture of the nation’s current state, declaring that Senegal is plunged to the 20th basement level, a metaphorical expression of the severe challenges facing the country.

The former mayor of Dakar did not hold back in his sharp remarks against the ruling power, declaring: “They are stuck in Baara Yegoo… but we’ve seen through their game.” This statement was widely interpreted as a direct critique of the current administration’s governance.

A call for unity and opposition cohesion

Khalifa Sall urged opposition forces to unite in trust and solidarity, emphasizing the need to build a collective front against the nation’s pressing political and socio-economic challenges. He reflected on the movement’s journey, acknowledging its trials, victories, and political realignments, while expressing deep appreciation for the unwavering commitment of its militants and allied forces.
