Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains questions sonko’s spending on casamance peace fund

Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains, a prominent political entity, has accused former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of mismanaging 3.7 billion FCFA from the “Jamm pour la Paix en Casamance” account between 2025 and 2026. The party asserts that these expenditures lack adequate justification and appear to be inconsistent with the original purpose of the fund.

In an official statement released on August 25, 2026, Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains specifically highlighted concerns over the allocation of special funds designated for peace initiatives within the Casamance region. The political group alleges that Sonko’s administration oversaw the disbursement of 3.7 billion FCFA from the “Jamm pour la Paix en Casamance” account without providing, in their assessment, comprehensive details on how these vast sums were utilized.

The party further claims that the former Prime Minister offered explanations for some of these expenses, including the procurement of vehicles and renovations to the Building administratif. However, Kiiraay maintains that such operations are entirely unrelated to the core objectives of the fund, which was specifically created to support and advance peace efforts in Casamance.

For the political formation, this situation undermines the very principles of transparency and accountability in public finance. “Transparency is applied selectively,” the party declared, emphasizing that all public funds should be subject to the same stringent justification requirements, regardless of the official or political affiliation involved.

This recent challenge from the Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains party emerges in the wake of a Constitutional Council decision. The council ruled that a law, enacted by the PASTEF-dominated National Assembly to oversee special funds, was unconstitutional. As of yet, former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has not publicly responded to the allegations made by the ruling party.
