Lens vs PSG: why the high-stakes Ligue 1 clash won’t air on Ligue 1+

Paris Saint-Germain travels to Lens on Wednesday at 9 PM for a rescheduled Ligue 1 showdown that could clinch their fourteenth league title. Yet this marquee clash won’t be available on Ligue 1+, leaving fans scrambling for alternatives.

The stakes couldn’t be higher: a PSG victory would secure their fourteenth Ligue 1 championship, potentially before their final match of the season. Luis Enrique’s side arrives in Lens with a six-point cushion over their hosts, making this an anticlimactic title decider rather than a nail-biter. Still, the clash against Lens could crown PSG champions hours before their Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30.

Ligue 1+ subscribers expecting to watch the match will need to tune into beIN Sports instead, as the broadcaster retains the rights despite the rescheduling.

Why the fixture missed its original broadcast window

The clash was originally slated for Saturday, April 11, at 5:15 PM—a slot reserved for beIN Sports under Ligue 1’s broadcast schedule. PSG’s Champions League quarterfinal against Liverpool on April 8 and 14 complicated matters, as the club requested a postponement due to a congested schedule packed with three matches, including two away games, in under a week.

While RC Lens initially opposed the rescheduling, the French Football League (LFP) sided with PSG, moving the fixture to May 13. Despite the date change, beIN Sports retained the broadcast rights as per the original agreement, leaving Ligue 1+ viewers without access to the match.

Had PSG fallen short at Bollaert-Delelis, they would have had to wait until the following weekend against Paris FC to secure the title, while Lens would have faced Lyon. However, with a commanding six-point lead, PSG’s championship appears all but decided.
