The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) recently concluded a successful week-long operation, providing vital escort and security for civilian vehicles traversing the key Kayes – Sandaré – Diéma – Bamako road corridor. This critical mission, which took place from June 23 to 29, 2026, aimed to bolster safety and ensure the uninterrupted flow of commerce along this strategic axis in Mali.

The operation commenced with a FAMa detachment securing a convoy of 540 civilian trucks from Kayes as they moved towards Sandaré. Concurrently, a second military unit departed from Diéma on June 23, converging with the initial convoy. This second group then assumed responsibility for the 540 trucks, alongside numerous other vehicles that had been awaiting passage in Sandaré.

Following the consolidation of vehicles in Diéma, the combined convoy swelled to an impressive 940 civilian trucks. Under the vigilant protection of the Malian Armed Forces, this substantial procession safely navigated through Sebabougou, Kwala, Diédiéni, Kolokani, and Kati, ultimately reaching the capital city of Bamako without encountering any significant incidents.

This successful operation underscores FAMa’s ongoing commitment to its core mandate: securing strategic road networks across Mali. By safeguarding these vital transportation arteries, the Malian Armed Forces continue to protect civilian users and uphold the principle of free movement throughout the national territory, thereby contributing to regional stability and economic activity.
