The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Crafts, Abakar Rozzi Téguil, officially inaugurated the 2026 Music Day celebrations at N’Djamena’s Hilton roundabout. The event brought together government officials, cultural stakeholders, artists and the general public to honor Chad’s diverse musical heritage.

Under the theme “Music as a tool for social cohesion”, this year’s festivities seek to promote dialogue, unity and reconciliation among communities through artistic expression.

Speaking at the launch, the minister emphasized the pivotal role of culture in strengthening national unity. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno’s vision, which prioritizes social cohesion as a cornerstone of public policy.

« This year, we’ve reimagined the celebration to be more inclusive, decentralized and accessible to everyone. The theme reflects music’s universal power to bridge divides, foster peace and promote coexistence in a world facing countless challenges, » he stated.

He also announced a nationwide musical tour spanning all ten districts of N’Djamena and multiple provinces. The goal is to bring cultural activities closer to citizens and expand access to artistic events across the country.

« Music should not be confined to concert halls. It must reach every neighborhood, public square, village and rural area to unite citizens around values of brotherhood, solidarity and national cohesion, » he added.

The festivities will feature performances and cultural activities designed to showcase homegrown talent. Organizers view this celebration as an opportunity to highlight the cultural and creative industries as key drivers of economic growth and youth empowerment in Chad.
