The Mayor of N’Djamena, Mr. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, led a significant delegation on a visit to the Hilton discharge site this Thursday, May 28, 2026. This inspection was a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to prevent widespread flooding.

Addressing the delegation, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for the central municipality, emphasized the strategic importance of the Hilton discharge site for N’Djamena. He explained that this facility plays a dual role: it effectively channels rainwater away from the city towards the river, and conversely, it is designed to prevent river waters from inundating urban areas during periods of high water levels.

Mr. Rodrigue further elaborated that the structure has sustained minor damage, specifically to its protective flap, which is vital for safeguarding against riverine floods. Despite this, he confirmed that numerous preparatory activities are already underway in anticipation of the upcoming rainy season.

During his visit to the site, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued stringent directives to the public works department. He instructed them to implement all necessary measures to ensure the swift repair of the damaged protective flap within the coming days, underscoring the urgency of the situation for N’Djamena’s flood prevention strategy.
