Cameroon’s commitment to African peace and security

President Paul Biya has opted not to attend the 21st extraordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled for August 30 in Luanda, Angola. Instead, he has mandated Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute to represent Cameroon at this critical gathering.

The Head of Government departed Yaoundé on Saturday, heading for the Angolan capital. This extraordinary session is specifically dedicated to strengthening mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution across the African continent. Discussions will address various regional crises, including the persistent Boko Haram insurgency in Cameroon’s Far North region and the ongoing separatist conflict in the country’s Anglophone regions.

Following his engagement in Luanda, Prime Minister Dion Ngute will travel to Serbia. There, he will once again represent President Biya at a high-level meeting commemorating the 65th anniversary of the first Conference of Heads of State and Government of Non-Aligned Countries. This event is set to take place in Belgrade from August 31 to September 1, 2026.
