Pierre Emmanuel Binyam: “Maurice Kamto’s departure from the party was not a resignation …”
The newly appointed chair of the Truth and Restoration Commission, established by Maurice Kamto, addressed the nation in a national television interview, shedding light on recent political developments.
The chair of the Truth and Restoration Commission, Pierre Emmanuel Binyam, recently spoke on national television about the political landscape following Maurice Kamto’s controversial exit from his party. Binyam emphasized that Kamto’s departure was not a formal resignation but rather a strategic move to pursue an independent presidential bid in 2026.
“Maurice Kamto’s departure from the party was not a resignation in the traditional sense. He was sent on a mission to represent our values externally. Now that circumstances have shifted, he has returned, and we have requested that he resume his role to complete his mandate,” Binyam explained.
As a prominent figure within the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), Binyam acknowledged the deep disappointment among party members after Kamto’s candidacy was disqualified. He described the rejection as a profound setback for the movement, particularly given the widespread belief that Kamto would have been the frontrunner in the election.
“The disqualification of Maurice Kamto’s candidacy left a lasting impact on our party. Even in international circles, polls consistently projected him as the clear winner. His exclusion was a bitter pill to swallow,” Binyam added.
