Dja river bridge construction progresses rapidly in Cameroon’s southern region

As of June 20, 2026, significant strides have been made in the Dja bridge construction project, with the primary supports for the structure nearing completion. Teams from CHINA HARBOUR ENGINEERING COMPANY CAMEROUN are intensifying their efforts to bring this vital infrastructure project to fruition.

Beyond this considerable progress, all necessary complementary geotechnical studies have been finalized, and the detailed execution studies now stand at 60% completion. All 20 foundational piles are now in place, and the contractor has initiated work on the access road leading to Bissombo. This phase includes the reinforcement of culvert piers at PK 0+669, the placement of substitute material following excavation at the culvert at PK 0+818, and the crushing of 0/250 aggregates for road construction.

This ambitious undertaking encompasses the construction of a 90-meter bridge and an additional 3 kilometers of access roads. Its successful completion is set to significantly enhance the transportation network along the Assok-Ngombo corridor, serving the Déjà and Lobo department within Cameroon’s Southern region. The total investment for the Dja river bridge component of the project is estimated at 10,530,686,344 FCFA, inclusive of all taxes.

In addition to the main bridge structure, plans include developing 1000 meters of access roads, extending 500 meters from each side of the bridge. These roads will feature a dual-lane carriageway, measuring a total of 7.00 meters in width, complemented by 1.50-meter wide shoulders finished with a double-layer surface dressing. Furthermore, the project incorporates essential drainage infrastructure, including two culverts of type 2 x 2.00 x 1.50, two culverts of type 2 x 2.00 x 2.00, and the construction of protective access dikes along the riverbanks.
