Provincial leader detained in N’Djamena following legal complaint
The president of the Borkou Provincial Council, Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon in N’Djamena and brought to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police. The arrest occurred inside the premises of the Hôtel La Résidence just before 5 p.m.
This action follows a formal complaint lodged for defamation and public insults. According to court documents, the lawsuit was filed by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who allege that Ahmat Bedei Toullomi disseminated false claims on social media, accusing them of involvement in cocaine trafficking within Chad.
The complainants strongly deny these accusations, labeling them as « completely false, baseless, and deceitful. » They argue that the allegations have severely damaged their personal and professional standing.
Legal proceedings and prior summons
A warrant for his arrest was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of First Instance, requiring his appearance to address the allegations. Prior to this, Ahmat Bedei Toullomi had been summoned multiple times but failed to respond. After more than ten days without compliance, authorities proceeded with his arrest to ensure he faced questioning.
Shortly after his detention, a statement appeared on his Facebook page at 5:10 p.m., reading: « Either the Marshal stands with us all, or criminals hold more power than the law. I have been abducted. »
It is important to note that the arrest was carried out strictly within the bounds of a formal legal process.
