Tshisekedi and Ndayishimiye discuss security and Ebola response in Kinshasa

On Monday, 22 June 2026, at the African Union City, President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of the Congo held talks with Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who also serves as the African Union Chairperson, during his state visit to the DRC.

The two heads of state first engaged in a one-on-one discussion, followed by an expanded bilateral meeting. Their conversations centred on strengthening cooperation between their nations across several mutual interest areas.

The security situation in eastern DRC was a key topic. Burundi currently supports the Congolese armed forces (FARDC) in countering Rwandan military occupation forces in the region.

Both parties also addressed joint efforts to combat the Ebola virus outbreak (Bundibugyo strain), stressing the urgent need to enhance cross-border surveillance to control the virus’s spread.

On Tuesday, 23 June, President Ndayishimiye is scheduled to tour the Central African Cultural and Artistic Centre before attending a meeting with the task force coordinating the health response against the resurgence of Ebola (Bundibugyo strain), which is particularly active in three eastern provinces.

A joint press conference by the two presidents is planned for later that same Tuesday, concluding this high-level summit.
