Algeria strengthens Niger’s military with helicopter and equipment donation

In line with the directives issued by the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, General Saïd Chanegriha, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), authorized the transfer of a substantial military donation to Niger’s armed forces. This gesture, confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense, underscores Algeria’s commitment to deepening strategic bilateral cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the defense sector.

The donation includes a comprehensive package of four helicopters—comprising two Mi-24V attack helicopters and two Mi-171 utility helicopters—along with a full complement of associated equipment. These aircraft, along with a cargo aircraft carrying ammunition, spare parts, and essential maintenance and logistical support materials, departed this morning from the secondary deployment base at In Gezzam in the 6th Military Region. Their destination: Niamey’s international airport in Niger.

This initiative is framed within Algeria’s broader regional policy, aimed at fostering peace, stability, and security across the Sahel. By reinforcing Niger’s operational capabilities, Algeria reaffirms its dedication to supporting neighboring countries through defense collaborations, expertise exchange, and multifaceted assistance. Such efforts, the Ministry of National Defense emphasized, are pivotal in sustaining collective security and stability in the region.
