In a scathing assessment delivered during a live broadcast on Jakaarlo, political commentator Badara Gadiaga accused former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of reckless financial management during his tenure at the helm of Senegal’s government.
More than four months have passed since Sonko was dismissed from his post on 22 May 2026, yet the funds allocated to political operations—amounting to 1.77 billion CFA francs—appear to have been nearly depleted under his watch. According to Gadiaga, only a meager 70 million CFA francs remain for his successor, Al Aminou Lo, signaling an alarming rate of expenditure.
Breaking down the numbers, the commentator highlighted that this translates to an average daily spending of around 12 million CFA francs during Sonko’s time in office. He drew a stark contrast between this figure and the struggles of students like Abdoulaye Ba, whose tragic death underscored the urgent need for delayed scholarship payments of just 40,000 CFA francs.
Gadiaga framed this disparity as evidence of a troubling disconnect between the government’s declared Economic and Social Recovery Plan (PRES) and the actual stewardship of public funds by Sonko. He emphasized that the former premier accessed over 300,000 CFA francs monthly from these allocations, questioning how such spending aligns with the austerity measures touted by the administration. The commentator labeled this alleged mismanagement as ‘vampirism’, a term encapsulating what he described as the systematic draining of resources meant for public welfare.
