Following his state visit to Kinshasa, the president of Burundi, who also chairs the African Union, reiterated his country’s dedication to peace and stability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a region plagued by violence from local and foreign armed groups as well as the AFC/M23 rebellion backed by Rwanda.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Congolese counterpart on Tuesday, 23 June, at the African Union City, the Burundian leader said the security situation in eastern DRC was one of the main topics discussed during his 48-hour visit.
