Strategic appointment ahead of 2027 polls

The Social Democratic Front (SDF), Cameroon’s leading opposition party, has established a national electoral preparation commission to strengthen its organizational framework ahead of the 2027 municipal and legislative elections. The decision was formalized during the party’s executive committee meeting held in Bamenda on June 13, 2026.

The newly created technical body will focus on identifying qualified candidates in underserved constituencies, revitalizing the party’s grassroots structures in its traditional strongholds, and ensuring robust oversight mechanisms during voting operations.

Expert economist takes helm of electoral strategy

Louis Marie Kakdeu, a respected economist and university lecturer specializing in budgetary, economic, and fiscal policy, has been named director of this critical commission. Kakdeu brings extensive experience from his previous role as campaign director for Joshua Osih during the October 2025 presidential election.

The appointment underscores the SDF’s commitment to transparent electoral processes and proactive campaign structuring. Kakdeu’s leadership will focus on reinforcing monitoring systems at polling stations and intensifying ground-level outreach to reconnect with voters following recent electoral setbacks.
