N’Djamena hosted a pivotal national workshop on July 10, 2026, convened by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training. The gathering brought together key stakeholders to review, refine, and validate a critical diagnostic report, which will serve as the foundation for Chad’s upcoming National Strategy for Digital Transformation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
This initiative aligns with the Pan-African Initiative for Digital Transformation of TVET Systems, supported by partners including UNESCO, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program. Its goal is to modernize Chad’s technical and vocational training sector permanently, ensuring alignment with evolving technological demands and emerging career pathways.
The pre-strategy study engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Training Centers (CFTP) and supporting institutions. Through field missions and digital data collection, the assessment covered every academic region in the country, providing a comprehensive snapshot of the sector’s current state.
Key insights and strategic priorities
Addressing the workshop on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, emphasized the strategic importance of digital transformation. He noted that the government views digitalization as a cornerstone for modernizing TVET and equipping learners with future-ready skills.
While the analysis revealed progress in some areas, it also highlighted critical gaps. Challenges include governance inefficiencies, limited digital infrastructure, inconsistent connectivity, unreliable power supply, inadequate trainer qualifications, and insufficient integration of digital competencies in curricula. Gabriel urged participants to contribute actively to the document, ensuring the final strategy is practical, inclusive, and grounded in Chad’s realities.
Next steps toward a digital-ready TVET system
Following the validation of the report, it will underpin the development of Chad’s National Strategy for Digital Transformation in TVET and its corresponding action plan for 2026–2030. The blueprint aims to establish a modern, high-performing technical training system that meets labor market demands and positions Chad as a leader in skills development across the region.
