Hazza Mohamed Alqahtani, the newly accredited Emirati ambassador to Bénin, met with Gildas Agonkan, the minister delegate to the president in charge of national defence, to present his credentials and discuss bilateral opportunities.
During the meeting, the ambassador praised the vitality of this military partnership and reiterated his country’s readiness to support security efforts on Béninese soil.
Bénin’s expectations for a modernised army
Minister Gildas Agonkan welcomed the initiative, stressing that this strategic collaboration aligns with President Romuald Wadagni’s vision to build a professional, resilient army equipped with cutting-edge technology to address current threats.
Reaffirming Bénin’s commitment to the United Arab Emirates due to their geostrategic importance in the Gulf, the minister expressed a desire to benefit from Abu Dhabi’s military expertise.
This expected support focuses on training, equipment acquisition, and technological assistance to bring this cooperation axis to fruition.
The two nations agreed to continue their joint efforts in service of peace, regional security, and development.
