Eight civilians lost their lives and one was injured in a brutal nighttime assault by Boko Haram militants in Cameroon’s Far North region, local authorities confirmed on Saturday.
Around 11 PM on Friday, armed fighters stormed the village of Kangaleri in the Mayo-Sava department, leaving the community in shock. Six victims were killed instantly, while three others sustained severe injuries. Tragically, two more succumbed to their wounds the following day, bringing the provisional death toll to eight. Medical teams continued to treat the remaining survivor as of Saturday evening.
The attackers, exploiting the cover of darkness, launched a sudden raid before vanishing into the night. Authorities are still investigating the exact sequence of events and identifying the victims.

A second attack unfolded in Tourou, part of the Mokolo district near the Nigerian border, during the same night. Jihadists reportedly looted livestock and torched a marketplace close to the town center. No human casualties were immediately reported for this incident.
Northern Cameroon remains a frequent target of Boko Haram and splinter factions, despite ongoing military operations by Cameroonian forces and their partners in the Lake Chad Basin Multinational Joint Task Force.
