The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, arrived yesterday in Banjul, Gambia’s capital, for a four-day state visit. He was warmly received by Gambia’s President Adama Barrow, with whom he held a private meeting. This was followed by bilateral discussions at the official residence, where they reviewed existing cooperation areas and explored new avenues for partnership. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen Gambia-Gabon relations and foster sustainable economic growth.
Today’s agenda includes another meeting with the Gambian host. The visit, aimed at strengthening the Libreville-Banjul axis, will also see President Oligui Nguema tour key government facilities and historic sites. Scheduled stops include the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of The Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, and the famed Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.
The program concludes with a state banquet hosted by President Barrow in honor of his distinguished guest.
Gambia’s economy thrives on tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade, with real GDP growth reaching 6.1%, driven by a robust services sector.
This state visit aligns with President Oligui Nguema’s ongoing continental tour, which includes several West African nations.
