In a strategic move to reinforce the Party of African Peoples-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), former President Laurent Gbagbo has designated five senior political figures to share key leadership responsibilities. This decision marks a shift toward a more collaborative governance model within the party, as outlined in an official communiqué issued on August 10, 2026.
The announcement, signed by Gbagbo himself, details the appointment of Assoa Adou as First Vice-President, tasked with overseeing party statutes and internal regulations, ensuring adherence across all organs and members. Meanwhile, Hubert Oulaye has been named Second Vice-President, responsible for presiding over Central Committee meetings and managing party affairs.
Additionally, Dano Djédjé Sébastien assumes the role of Chairman of the Strategic and Political Council, with authority over general party direction and operational supervision.
Gbagbo emphasized that this restructuring reflects a commitment to collective leadership, stating, “This division of responsibilities demonstrates our dedication to fostering a unified, complementary approach where multiple leaders drive the party forward.”
He further explained that the move stems from the belief that “a party’s strength lies not in a single individual but in the cohesion and coordinated efforts of its leadership and grassroots supporters.” The former president added, “Challenges are overcome through unity, discipline, and shared purpose. Only by working together can the PPA-CI overcome obstacles and serve the Ivorian people effectively.”
