A legal battle unfolding in N’Djamena’s courts has exposed deep marital tensions after a soldier stationed in the volatile Lake Chad region returned home to find his wife living with another man. The case, which combines adultery allegations and dowry disputes, has been adjourned for deliberation.

The conflict traces back to the soldier’s extended deployment in the Lake Chad zone, leaving his wife and their three children behind. Upon his return, he discovered the family home abandoned. Using phone tracking technology, he located his wife in N’Djamena’s Bakara district, living with a civilian man.

Determined to confront the situation, the soldier traveled from Lake Chad to the capital, where he tracked down the couple and summoned authorities. Gendarmes intervened, detaining both individuals and transferring them to the Klessoum detention center pending trial.

During questioning, the wife remained steadfast in her refusal to reconcile with her husband, insisting she preferred her new partner. Prosecutors, however, took a firm stance, demanding strict legal consequences for the alleged adultery and seeking fines of 100,000 CFA francs for each defendant. The soldier, meanwhile, has demanded the return of his dowry, valued at two million CFA francs.

The defense argued that the wife had endured prolonged emotional neglect due to her husband’s extended absence, portraying her actions as a response to abandonment rather than infidelity.

With both sides presenting their cases, the court has reserved judgment, with a ruling expected in the coming days.
