After ten days on the road, a team of twenty members from Motards du Faso triumphantly concluded their 2026 Grand Regional Tour in Ouagadougou. The journey, which spanned approximately 3,000 kilometers, took them through five countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Bénin, and Nigeria. Beyond the thrill of adventure and sport, the expedition served as a platform for charity work and road safety advocacy, with a strong focus on the mandatory use of helmets.
The return to Ouagadougou was met with an outpouring of enthusiasm. The team’s departure from the capital at 4:30 AM set the tone for an unforgettable first leg. After nearly 23 hours—including rest stops—they arrived in Accra, Ghana, the following afternoon, marking the beginning of a journey filled with cultural exchanges and camaraderie.
Uniting West African riders through shared passion
Speaking upon their return, the president of Motards du Faso, Abel Aziz Konaté, shared the essence of their mission. « This initiative is part of our regional tour, which we’ve named the Grand Tour Régional des Motards du Faso 2026. It also aligns with our long-standing commitment to connect with fellow riders across the region—especially those who joined us for our previous event, the 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina, held in September 2025, » he explained.
The team, adorned in helmets and branded jackets, rode sleek motorcycles through bustling streets and serene landscapes, covering over 3,000 kilometers in an atmosphere of unity and determination.
A journey of resilience and cultural exchange
« Our goal was clear: to demonstrate the resilience of Burkina Faso. It was both a challenge and a calling, » Konaté stated. The itinerary traced a path from Ouagadougou to Paga, then into Ghana, onward through Togo and Bénin, before reaching Nigeria. Each stop was an opportunity to engage with local communities and foster cross-border solidarity among motorcyclists.
Throughout the expedition, the team encountered heartwarming moments and cultural highlights that underscored the power of shared passion and mutual respect. These interactions reinforced the importance of collective action in promoting safer roads.
Advocating for helmet use: a shared responsibility
Konaté emphasized the critical role of helmet safety during the tour. « We fully support the Ministry of Security’s efforts to enforce helmet use. Yet, I firmly believe compliance should stem from awareness, not just enforcement. Wearing a helmet must become second nature—a natural and healthy habit for all road users, » he asserted.
The Motards du Faso have once again proven that their commitment extends beyond the thrill of the ride. Their regional tour not only highlighted the beauty of West Africa but also reinforced the importance of road safety, leaving a lasting impact on every community they visited.
